Day 14: Tracadie, NB area

Email Print
Clock 1. July 2009 by
Today I started from the boat ramp in downtown Tracadie. There was a bit of a headwind as I cut across the south end of Tracadie Bay to the Lien des Deux Rivieres canal that provides a shortcut to the Big Tracadie. A slight favorable current helped me along the short ways to the Val-Comeau area. It was a fairly uneventful paddle as I worked my way to the Sheila bridge, The Lake, and up the Big Tracadie River. One difference I noticed was that there were more small boats out on the water. The map and compass were a big help in this area since there were many different inlets and tributaries that really looked about the same.

When I reached the dock of the Haché cottage, I was surprised to find out that the Vances were still not there. I was told that there was something wrong with the car, and that they were still at the Losiers trying to figure it out. Of course that scared me some, but the more immediate concern was that I didn’t have any dry clothes to change into. After being loaned some clothes and fed a big lunch, we went over to find out what was going on. It turns out that they had gotten to cleaning, noticed a minor electrical problem, and kept on with fixing up the car. In the process, they accidentally pushed a switch that set off some lights. So there was concern about why the lights wouldn’t turn off. In any case, I didn’t get back to paddling during the afternoon, but we did end up with a thoroughly cleaned car. In the evening, we had fellowship and prayer with several people from the Pokemouche church.
